It’s much harder to rally the resistance against a charming foe. The villagers might pull out their pitchforks to come after the foul-smelling, slobbering creature in the forest. The Seducer/Seductress archetype makes for a powerful villain, because everybody wants what they’re selling. (Amy Dunne in Gone Girl is a great example of this.) Everybody is under the Seducer’s spell in one way or another, and when the protag figures it out, they’re still on their own.The protagonist knows the Seducer is the bad guy but struggles to convince others. The protagonist has no idea that the Seducer is their nemesis for much of the story because, you know, they’re being seduced. This can play out in a few different ways: Sometimes you find this archetype in the story’s antagonist. How does the Seducer address a deeper longing or shelter the hero from their greatest fear? The Seducer as the Antagonist If your Seducer is in the story just to make your Hero’s life more difficult, be sure to consider what the challenge reveals about your protagonist. She’s not Odysseus’s primary nemesis she’s just a complication within his greater journey. This is Circe luring Odysseus to her island, turning his men into pigs, and seducing the hero in the literal sense. Whether they’re the antagonist or just a distraction that throws the hero off-course, this character is rarely the one we cheer for.Įven so, the Seducer can play a wide range of roles within your story, and each role can add intrigue and adventure to your plot. We most often see the Seducer/Seductress archetype in a villainous role. When you pair relentless self-interest with an intriguing motive and an uncanny skill for social shapeshifting, you get a pretty riveting story. The Seducer then chameleons their way into the role of lover, mentor, confident… whatever position gets them where they want to be. They see what this person longs for or-more powerfully-how this person wants to feel about themselves. The Seducer understands their target’s deepest fantasies. Rather, what defines a Seducer is their drive to get what they want by charming others into giving it to them. No matter what gender your Seducer may be, their defining trait is not sex appeal (though they certainly can be sexy). …essentially a woman who taps into the mysterious witchcraft of feminine desirability to take men down because that’s… just… something we think hot women do? I guess? The Seductress is also known as the Siren, the Homewrecker, or the Femme Fatale… The Seducer archetype has a long history of being flattened into a tired trope, especially when applied to female characters. What is the Seducer/Seductress Archetype? Pretty alluring stuff, right? Let’s get to it.

Pokki also works with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. So, if you still like to have the old features back but want to use Windows 8, Pokki might be the app, right for you. And the best part of all this is it’s completely free to download and use. The app can also disable the new hot corners which lets you access Windows Charms. You can see a screenshot of the app store below.Īnother feature of Pokki is it will let Windows 8 users to boot directly to desktop. Pokki has also improved its app store a lot. It brings a full-fledged app launcher which includes favorites for desktop and Metro apps. Unlike other Start Menu replacement apps, Pokki’s Start menu isn’t just a Windows 7 clone. Pokki surely solves this problem to a great extent, even though the app is still in its beta stage of development. With the latest beta, Pokki added an option which will allow it to work as a start menu replacement for Windows 8. Pokki developers feel that many Windows 8 users might be frustrated, confused, and lost without a bridge to the traditional Start menu. Unless you’ve lived under a rock, you’re by now aware that Microsoft has killed the Start Menu in Windows 8 completely. The good news is, it will work as Windows 8 Start Menu replacement and lets you directly boot to the Desktop. So, what’s the point of talking about the app again here, when it’s still holding to its beta badge? Well, the reason we are talking about Pokki here at MTG again is it’s now ready for Windows 8. Some popular apps available via its app store are Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, Angry Birds, etc. Do you remember Pokki, the unique app launcher for Windows users, we recommended earlier? Pokki lets you download and run various web apps from Windows Taskbar. Once the bag is completely white with mycelium (sometimes this takes longer than 4 weeks) remove the bag and place in a humid environment.Store the bag in a dark and warm place (around 18-24☌) for 10-21 days. Avoid the temptation to regularly check on them – they like to be left alone at this stage.Pierce the bag with 2-3 pin holes to allow air exchange during colonisation.Add the mix to a sealable plastic bag (leaving some air in the bag before sealing, as you did with your cardboard spawn prep bag).A ratio of 1:10, spawn to straw is ideal. Add your prepared and cultivated spawn.Drain off the straw and wait for it to cool to room temperature.Be careful not to boil the straw as this will remove key nutrients. Pasteurise your straw by soaking it in water at a temperature of 72☌ – 82☌ for 40 minutes to 1 hour.Take your straw and cut into short lengths to maximise surface area, approximately 1-2 inches.Once the cardboard has gone entirely white, it is ready to use as spawn, you can add this to straw to “bulk-up” and grow from with the below process.ġ0 Basic Steps for Cultivating Mushrooms on Straw The less they are disturbed the quicker they will grow. Store the bag in a warm (ideally around 23☌) dark place and leave for at least 3-4 weeks. When sealing the bag there's no need to squeeze out all of the air from the bag – oxygen is good! Repeat steps 6 and 7 until the container/bag is filled and finish by adding a final layer of cardboard with no mushroom on the top.Cover the mushroom stems with another layer of cardboard.Add 3 - 4 small pieces of mushroom, preferably the stem butts, to the sheet of card – less is more and will help the mycelium grow stronger.Place an even layer of your pasteurised cardboard on the bottom of the container / bag.Next, you'll need a clean food container or bag. Make some pin sized holes in it for air exchange. This step is important to minimise contamination risk! Wait 6 – 10 mins and once the cardboard is cool enough to touch separate the layers of card.Pasteurise the cardboard by pouring freshly boiled water over it. Let it cool, and pour off the excess water. You'll need large pieces that you can cut or shred into smaller pieces. Source cardboard with no ink or writing on it.If you already have your cardboard spawn bag ready, skip to step 10! You can try the cardboard technique with any wood-loving mushroom, from the supermarket, forest, or previous grows – experiment! (But don’t mix types) As cardboard has little nutrients you won’t get mushrooms from this, but the results of this process can be added to straw, which you can mushrooms grow from. A spawn bank is anything that has mycelium present, making it perfect for growing mushrooms. Blending can take place before or after fermentation, with the latter, more popular option giving more control to the winemaker over the final qualities of the wine. Sometimes small amounts of a particular variety are added to boost color or aromatics. For example, a red wine blend variety that creates a fruity and full-bodied wine would do well combined with one that is naturally high in acidity and tannins. Blending can be utilized to enhance balance or create complexity, lending different layers of flavors and aromas. In many European regions, strict laws are in place determining the set of varieties that may be used, but in the New World, experimentation is permitted and encouraged resulting in a wide variety of red wine styles. With hundreds of red grape varieties to choose from, winemakers have the freedom to create a virtually endless assortment of blended red wines. The family looks forward to inviting people to explore the special character of a place they consider a “hidden gem.” Chuck feels privileged to include “Suisun” on a Caymus wine and believes that people will come to know and appreciate the region more and more. In addition to growing grapes in the region, the Wagner family also plans to open a winery in Suisun Valley, slated for opening by early 2021. Known more for its production of stone fruits, Suisun Valley is increasingly being recognized for its wines.įor the past several years, Chuck has been producing Caymus-Suisun Grand Durif - Durif is synonymous with Petite Sirah, one of the varietals that thrives in Suisun Valley. Chuck likes to say that Suisun Valley reminds him of Napa Valley in the 1960s – full of open space, small family farms, meandering waterways lined with native oaks, and exceptional vineyards. Only a 30-minute drive southeast of Napa, Suisun Valley is less well-known than its more famous neighbor, but shares a similar maritime climate and superb soils. Now Caymus is putting down roots in a neighboring wine region called Suisun Valley. The only wine ever named Wine Spectator's "Wine of the Year" twice has the Caymus name on it: the vaunted "Special Selection" Cabernet Sauvignon.Chuck Wagner founded Caymus Vineyards with his parents in 1972 in Rutherford, California, in the center of Napa Valley. Having spent years learning the secrets of the property farming alongside his father, Chuck took the helm as winemaker in 1984. After re-planting significant portions of their 73-acre property to grapes (most significantly to Cabernet clones from grower Nathan Fay), Charlie, his wife Lorna and his son Chuck officially founded Caymus in 1972. Not until winemaking legend Andre Tchelistcheff commented on the remarkable quality of his home winemaking grapes did he begin to look at his land in a different way. Charlie was an old-school character not easily given to fad or fashion, and wasn't about to switch gears without a very compelling reason. He had no grand visions of becoming one of Napa's vineyard gurus. The late Charlie Wagner, a non-nonsense man of the land, was happily farming wheat and fruit trees on the same Rutherford property he had known since childhood. Their story began quietly in the 1940's, when Napa Valley was largely considered a far flung wilderness of prune and walnut orchards with a mere smattering of grapevines. Few farming legacies in California, certainly when it comes to growing world-class wine grapes, can stand up to the Wagner family. There are multiple skeletons shown and bugs covering people in the movie. There is an underwater scene with attacking eels that might be concerning for some kids- especially if they don’t like snakes (ala Indy). A child is also in the thick of the chase, so to speak, for many of these scenes.Ī body is run over by a car after being thrown off a motorcycle, people are shot, and bloody wounds are shown through clothes. Hand-to-hand combat, guns, explosions, bombs, plane crashes, and overall peril happen throughout the movie. There are violent and gross scenes on similar levels to the other Indiana Jones movies (minus the 2nd one that I think is the most concerning for kids). It has sub-6 5G connectivity if you add a cellular plan, but best of all is the USB-C charging port, so you can recharge it with your MacBook charger. It loses the Home button but doesn't adopt Face ID-like on the iPad Air and 10th-gen iPad, Touch ID is baked into the power button. You might even be able to fit it into your cargo pants pocket. It's a little shorter than its predecessor, and its compact size makes it the best slate to take with you everywhere. Apple's 2021 refresh mimics the design of the iPad Pro, with slimmer bezels around the 8.3-inch screen. The iPad Mini looks like no iPad Mini that came before ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends). Read our Best iPad Accessories guide for cheaper alternatives. (It's included if you buy a new first-gen Apple Pencil, but if you already have one, the adapter is $9.) This iPad supports the Magic Keyboard Folio (and the original Smart Folio case), but we don't recommend spending nearly half the price of the tablet on a keyboard case. It still doesn't have a fully laminated display, and you also don't get second-gen Apple Pencil support-it only works with the first-gen stylus now that the Lightning port is gone, you need to use an adapter to recharge the Pencil. This supposedly basic iPad now costs $120 more, starting at $449. It's powered by Apple's A14 Bionic chip-the same that's in the iPhone 12-which Apple claims delivers 20 percent faster performance and a 10 percent bump in graphics over the ninth-gen model it never felt sluggish in our testing. The rear camera has been upgraded to 12 megapixels, instead of 8 megapixels. But, perhaps most importantly, the 12-MP selfie camera has been moved to the center of the iPad (in landscape mode), so you’ll no longer have to uncomfortably stare to the side during video calls. The cellular model now supports 5G, and like on the iPad Air, the Touch ID sensor is integrated into the power button that sits on the top edge of the slate. There's finally a USB-C port instead of Lightning, so you can charge it with the same cable as you use to charge a MacBook. It has uniform slim bezels around a larger 10.9-inch Liquid Retina (IPS LCD) display. That means there's an air gap between the screen and the glass, which can make interactions with the Apple Pencil feel a smidge imprecise.Īpple has modernized its most basic iPad ( 7/10, WIRED Review). (The camera placement is still a bit awkward.) It's worth highlighting that this iPad doesn't have a fully laminated display. The real highlight is the front camera, which is 12 megapixels and supports Center Stage, the iPad Pro feature that moves the camera around during video calls so you always stay in the frame. The A13 Bionic chip, which debuted on the iPhone 11, makes it one of the most powerful tablets for the price, and there are other welcome upgrades, like 64 GB of storage and True Tone, which adjusts the color temperature of the display to match the ambient lighting to look more natural. It retains the classic Home button with Touch ID plus thick borders around the 10.2-inch screen. It has the same shape and size as its predecessors, so all current accessories will work, including the first-generation Apple Pencil and Apple's Smart Keyboard. It's the most affordable (and has dipped as low as $250). So the idea is to export the BSS page to html, transform it to a React template, which is a Javascript function, and use that function as React's render function in a component. I recently integrated React into my Rails app and that was just about the right decision, because a company called WIX has written react-templates, which provides a way to wrap a BSS export into a React component. Since I liked the idea of using it for building my Rails web application, I was wondering if there's a better way to use it than manually copy-and-pasting HTML and CSS code from BSS's export. It's not free, but at least the price tag is not very high. The latest version features support for Bootstrap 4 and includes a migration function for converting Bootstrap 3 projects to Bootstrap 4.
